A Home for Seattle’s Creative Community

The Slate Theater has provided a space where local actors, directors, playwrights, producers, educators and fans of theater have come together for many years. Based out of the historic Inscape Arts Building, Slate Theater hosts a wide array of performances, workshops, and community-driven events; helping build the strength of Seattle's independent arts scene.


Slate Theater is located in an intimate black box theater, this creates an opportunity for performers to develop a strong relationship with their audience and allows them to be innovative, creative and explore new concepts in a friendly and open way.

Supporting Independent Theater

The Slate Theater is a long-standing example of how to provide an affordable space for smaller, independent theatrical organizations. Since its inception The Slate has provided artists and smaller theatrical companies with a venue to present new and established works. Examples of productions presented at The Slate include classic plays/musicals as well as original works, staged readings/workshops and experimental performances.

Productions Through The Years

Over the years, The Slate Theater has welcomed numerous local theater companies and productions. Community members have attended performances ranging from intimate dramas and contemporary plays to musicals and creative showcases. Productions such as Little Shop of Horrors, Beautiful Thing, Three Days of Rain and Death of a Salesmanhave all been staged at The Slate, contributing to its history as an active performance venue.
